Every morning I like to have my devotional, quiet time. It’s really after my daughter wakes me up around 4am, I feed her, change her diaper and then she goes back to sleep. By this time its 5am and it’s when I usually have my devotional time, I’m tired but not soo sleepy I can’t function. So during my devotional time, I have my bible app, it comes with different devotions that fit your needs. I am currently doing Joyce Meyer: “Promises for your everyday life!” and I LOVE it because it fits my needs and it’s like God speaks to me in every area of my life in these devotional.
Well the devotion for today (October 24) talks about 7 ways to practice peace. This is speaking to me because currently I am a BUSY women. I have a blog, a brand new daughter, a thriving business, 2 other school age children and a husband that is currently deployed. Finding peace in situations that seem so chaotic is difficult at times. So when I came across this devotional this was perfect timing, and so I thought I’ll share them with you as I am practicing them myself and finding that it works wonders!!
Blogging is one of the ways I have peace and relaxes me. The meaning of Peace is: freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility. Blogging just gives me that “get away” from chasing after the kids, laundry, cleaning, etc. I can just dig in and write posts for hours!
Then there are days where blogging is one of those tasks that doesn’t gives me peace at all. I’m rushing to finish posts, there’s deadlines I need to follow, reviews I need to put out, and it can get frustrating and sometimes not even worth it, Joyce Meyer stated in this step that: Hurrying is the flesh trying to do more than the Holy Spirit is leading you to do, Be led by the spirit!
Galatians 5:16 (ESV)
“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
The first step is: Be selective with how you spend your time! Now for me, Its SUPER early in the morning after devotional and LATE at night when EVERYONE is in bed, where I can blog peacefully without distraction. This process took some time, trial and error for me to get it together and knock out these blog posts. I currently have a whole month of schedule blog posts up because I used those times selectively, and you can to, see what works and don’t work and make it a routine.
The second step: “Be Prepared to say “no” nicely!” I can’t say “yes” to every opportunity I come across, even though it may sound great for my blog readers, I may not have the time, and energy to spend on an opportunity, It won’t be effective for where I’m trying to grow this blog and for me. Saying “no” is a blessing for me and my household. You can always go to God when you cannot decided when to say “no” when situations come up.
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
Third Step: Resist the spirit of procrastination! The fact that I have posts schedule sometimes leaves me to just not post for days because I have blog posts step and ready to go, But after all the trial and error finding the time to blog and making it a routine I want to keep it that way. I know that this will help me in the long run!
1 Corinthians 9:25 (ESV)
“Every athlete exercises self-control in all things…”
Fourth step: Eliminate key distractions. I know that I am prone to certain distractions, One of those things is TV. Watching tv will distract me for hours. I know that I need to eliminate those things while I’m blogging, spending time with my children, or even cleaning. Finding your time to do what you need to do and staying focus on that task.
Psalm 119:15 (ESV)
“I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.”
Fifth Step: “Set appropriate boundaries for interruptions.” Life is full of interruptions, when it comes to a phone call during your scheduled time to blog or spend time with your children, but you can learn to set boundaries in healthy ways! Schedule time when you are working, schedule a time where you giving yourself a break from blogging, working, cleaning, etc. Finding balance means: an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady. Finding a healthy way of having an even distribution of yourself.
Psalm 23:1-3 (ESV)
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.
The sixth step: Modify your life! Pray and ask God to show you unique ways to save time and trouble. When interruptions happen like when your little one routinely take naps but today doesn’t and that’s when you use that time to either watch your favorite show or wash dishes, Record the show, or in this case Joyce Meyer stated she uses paper plates when she doesn’t have time to actually wash dishes.
Philippians 4:6 (ESV)
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
Seven Step: Pray and Listen! If you see that no matter what you do, nothing is working. Your plan is not producing the peace and balance you are looking for, Go back to God and pray, ask for wisdom to make the changes necessary for your life.
James 1:5 (AMP)
“If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of [a]the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or fault-finding, and it will be given him.”
The bottom line is, if you want peace and balance, YOU have to be the one to pursue it!! Everyone is different, so these steps have worked for me and you tried it and it didn’t work for you, then change it up and decide what works for you and your household and do it UNTIL it works.
Hebrews 12:14 (AMP)
“Strive to live in peace with everybody and pursue it…”
