In my years of growing up in my mother’s house, I didn’t go church or learn about God until later in life. I never really heard of people doing bible study at home with their family or children until I started going to church regularly. Even then, I still didn’t know how to start one. I really just depended on the Sunday school teacher, at my church, to teach my kids the bible and if my kids had questions, I would gladly answer them.
I’ve always wanted to do it but I’ve always felt inadequate to teach my children because I was learning myself. I felt like what CAN I teach my kids, when I barely knew the bible. My husband was always working and deploying, so it was hard for Him to actually start anything. Recently, I just had a burning in my heart to really start a bible study in my home for my kids.
My pastor, at my church would challenge us to do better in teaching our children the word of God. I felt a strong conviction in my heart to do something about this. I want to be able to teach my children the word of God and help them develop a relationship with the Lord. My end goal is that they are equipped to develop a relationship with the Lord, and I want to show them what that looks like. I pray and hope through the bible they would understand how much God loves us, Understand God and to develop that relationship during hard times, because it’s during the hard times where we really grow in Him and in our character.
As the Lord, was creating in me a passion to teach my kids the word, I was looking for resources to help me understand how to get started, there are so many resources but there was one that I was looking for that really spoke to my children and I.
The devotional is an illustrated 90-day devotional written by bestselling children’s book author Amy Parker and illustrated by Vanessa Brantley-Newton, teaching and inspiring kids to dream about their future, to focus on faith, love, and joy, and recognize that God has a plan and purpose for each and every one of us. I LOVE this because this is exactly what I’m looking for.
The journal prompts creative thinking and exploration of the talents and personalities that make us special, and then helps explore how God may use our unique traits to spread love and joy and make the world a better place. I LOVE this Journal because my daughter LOVES to write and she is getting into that Pre-teen stage and is discovering more and more about her personality and how God made her.
Starting a bible study with my kids has developed great conversations as a family and has really, strengthen my faith as well, knowing that God is with me, guiding me in this process of starting something new with my children and family.
This is my son, asking questions about the bible study
Here’s how to get started:
– Before getting started, pray and seek God, what is He showing you in your family, when it comes to bible study?
– Talk to your spouse about it. My husband and I both are on board, when it comes to how to share the word of God with the kids, we were both in prayer about it.
– Seek out resources on teaching your kids about the bible. I was looking for something that really adjusted how real God is and how it applies to our everyday life.
If you are looking to start your own Family Bible study, I am giving away the Plans I Have For You Devotional and Journal so you can give to your child and start a bible study in your home for your family.
