I’ve been a stay-at-home-mom for over 10+ years. Before I got pregnant and started a family I was in college living my best life. I was trying to decide which path to take as far as my major and I actually had fun in the process. I ended up with Business and finally got my BS degree in Business and I now work at the Bank as a Bank Teller.
Here are some tips to help you choose the right career
Attend free classes that interest you
Here in North Carolina, there’s a community college that has TONS of FREE classes that are so informational. They range from Taxes, to LLC to franchise (Whether this is a right fit for you) to Side hustles you can try on your own. There are so many opportunities now, where you can try out what you are passionate about or have considered doing FREE.
Getting into banking wasn’t something that I ALWAYS thought about doing. There was one time as a temp, I worked as a bank teller but this was something totally different from what I do now. I LOVED the experience it grew me as a person and I wouldn’t trade it for nothing. I’m always prayerful about the things I do. I’m always willing to try something different all the time but if it’s not something GOD wants me to do, then it’s not worth it.
Pray about the direction God wants you to take, It may be different from what you have in mind. Try it out, take that step forward and see where God leads you. I’ve done this with Childcare and I been at this position for 4 years and it has blessed my soul so much. Even though this was not something I wanted to do, God had other plans.
exposure yourself to different subjects
As I stated before, working as a childcare worker wasn’t something I EVER wanted to do. Exposing myself to different opportunities helps you narrow down what you like and don’t like. I highly recommend doing this.
While you’re in college exposure yourself to different subjects that sound interesting to you while you are deciding which way to go. By experiencing the different subjects or areas, you now have solid experience and advice not just from people but from what you have done.
In addition to this as well, seek advise from guidance consoler and even people from your church. Getting advise is always helpful and wise from others who have walked in your shoes.
It will take time to try out different things making sure that its something you are excited about, working towards goals and even something you want to wake up and go to every day will take time.
Be patient with yourself and even finding opportunities in your area. A good place to look is a temp agency in your area. Google temp agencies in your area and I recommend checking it out, This has blessed me so much. ALso, try out Internships in the college or University you are attending and try it out. Lastly, Check out Indeed.com This helped me find my current job. I suggest this avenue as a start to finding what you would like to do.
Excited about starting my new Bank Teller job
Get a plan and ask yourself questions:
– Business or Entrepreneurship
– What are my options?
– Is Joining the military an option?
These are some questions to ask yourself in the meantime of searching for your career or passion you want to do now or in the future. My passion is doing what I’m doing now is sharing advise, sharing what God has put on my heart here on YouTube and Blogging. This feeds my passion and I get to go to work part-time and be home for my kids is my passion.
As you are finding out what that passion or career that can help you, ask yourself these questions, which will leave you to other questions to get the ball rolling in what you will be doing.
Dreaming is important
What are your dreams? If money wasn’t an option what is it that you want to do for the rest of your life. I was in therapy at point and was talking to my therapist and he shared with me that counseling people and listening to their problems was relaxing for him. That dying while counseling people was his dream. I thought it was funny at first but after a while, I thought he is actually doing what he LOVES to do. His passion is helping people and this is the way that he can do it. This is what makes him happy.
Can’t be afraid to fail
-Determine to find it (It creates determination)
This is the BIGGEST lesson of my life. I learned by failing and getting back up and trying again. Failing used to paralyze my but I’ve learned that it’s just a stepping stone to learning about myself, what to do and not to do in whatever I was getting into. Watch the movie: Meet the Robinson’s AWESOME movie about persevering about the lessons learned about failing its a kid movie but you can still learn a lot.
If you don’t know at all and have no clue where to go or what to do. Take the risk in discovering what you want to do. For me the risk was in staying int he position in Child care, I hated it so much. It wasn’t what I wanted to do but knowing that God has you there for a reason makes a difference and it did after the screaming and yelling and complaining I did while I was there helped me realize that God had me there for a reason to learn for future situations which helped me in my everyday life and as a MOPS coordinator it helped me as well. You never know what God will do for you in the long run. His ways are so much better and I have to remind myself this every, single, day.
